“Whaddya gonna do … take away my skates? Take away my puck? Take away my stick?”
Just when we’re all ready to jump ship with this whole NHL lockout and throw in the towel with any hope of salvaging what could be left of the 2012-13 season, Nike comes along and creates a perfect commercial to lift hockey fans’ spirits (video below).
The slogan, although not directly apparent throughout any of the commercial, is quite appropriate and uplifting — “Hockey Is Ours.”
They recruited a few of the league’s brightest stars (among the few that have stuck it out and haven’t headed overseas aside from Washington Capitals Alex Ovechkin) with the likes of Tampa Bay Lightning‘s Steven Stamkos and Montreal Canadiens P.K. Subban and even included some hockey talent outside of the NHL like women’s Olympic Gold-Medalist Tessa Bonhomme and Mark Scheifele of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).
After viewing it only once, it brought back a spark of hope that I know I, as I’m sure most of the rest of hockey fans, lost with this last round of game cancellations through December 30.
Yes, NHL, hockey IS ours and we’re all pretty tired of this lockout. You’ve dragged it out long enough that you’re even making big businesses take notice.
