There are more and more details beginning to leak out about the end of the National Hockey League lockout and what happens now. It sounds like a 48 or 50-game season is ahead with very little preparation time before the season actually starts on either Jan. 15 or 19. There are many things I really don’t like seeing about what is going on with the NHL.
The biggest thing was getting an agreement obviously but you are now looking at a schedule that is strictly in a team’s own conference with no games against the other conference. The only way that a team could see an opponent in the other conference would be the Stanley Cup Finals. While that sounds about as traditional as it gets with separation of the two conferences, it just doesn’t seem right in today’s game. There are fans that wait months and years to get a ticket to see the likes of Sydney Crosby come to their town. That opportunity has been snuffed out for this year.
It’s going to be more of a sprint than a marathon with the 2013 NHL season and who knows how late into the summer the season will go. It is clear however that there are going to be fans in almost every part of the world that are wearing shorts while watching the Stanley Cup being decided. That just sounds bad to me so hopefully the NHL can figure out this schedule and make it at least enjoyable for the fans that do come back to the arenas right away.
