As I expressed in an article last Sunday, I think it’s goofy that fans are boycotting the league, and not partaking in anything to do with the NHL this season, after finally getting what they wanted. That aside, there was going to need to be something that brought the casual fans back, and the Nashville Predators have most likely done that.
The Preds are running what they’re calling a “Friends & Family Special” to open up their first two games of the season. Here’s what they’re offering:
- Buy a ticket at full-price to Preds opener
- Receive a free ticket to the next Nashville home game
- 50% off of all soda and certain beer for both home games
- Dollar dog nights for the second game
That is an absolutely great promotion that the organization is dedicating to the fans, and quite honestly, I’m a little sad I don’t live in Nashville right now.
Other teams such as the Pittsburgh Penguins and Tampa Bay Lightning have revealed promotions as well. Fans will receive vouchers for free concession items and have the ability to purchase merchandise for 50% off during Pittsburgh’s first four home games. They will also be giving out prizes. The Lightning, on the other side, are offering 200 season ticket packages for only $200, wow! Wouldn’t mind being in Tampa either.
It’s great that teams are trying to make things right, and I still want my Center Ice package for free, but all the fans really wanted in the first place was a full NHL season.
