Kevin Hatcher played in his 1,000th NHL career game against the Anaheim Ducks.

Pittsburgh had five players participate in the NHL All-Star Game in Philadelphia: Mario Lemieux, Kevin Stevens, Jaromir Jagr and Paul Coffey (all named to the starting Wales Conference lineup) and Bryan Trottier was added to the team in the veteran’s category.
