The young stars of the Carolina Hurricanes stepped up in their third game versus the Buffalo Sabres. The Canes earned their first win of the season with their 6-3 victory. Eric Staal got a hat trick but some of the team’s best players were the young guns.
Jeff Skinner may have been the Canes best player in the first three games. He scored his first goal of the season Tuesday against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Skinner scored two goals versus the Sabres and had a multitude of chances. He scored the Hurricanes first goal with a wicked backhand to the top shelf. Then he gained the lead again with the Hurricanes third goal after stealing a puck and scoring on a tricky wrap around. Skinner is off to a great start to the season with three goals in three games.
Many of the other young stars for the Canes put up multiple points. Justin Faulk scored the Hurricanes second goal of the game and his first of the season. He got the puck on a three on one and blasted a slap shot between the legs of Jhonas Enroth shorthanded. Faulk has been one of the Hurricanes best defensemen this year.
Newcomer Jordan Staal had his best game so far with assists on the first two goals. He set up Skinner in front of the net for the first goal. Staal also stole the puck and passed it to Faulk on his short-handed goal. Zac Dalpe also had two assists for the Canes in the game. It was his first two points of the season after missing the Lightning game from illness. It was Dalpe’s best game so far and possibly solidified his spot on the Hurricanes. Jamie Mcbain also put up an assist in his first game after being scratched for the Hurricanes first two. He has definitely earned the chance to play more games on the Hurricanes.
