Jarome Iginla has been an integral part of the Calgary Flames since 1995. Iginla is in the final year of his contract with Calgary and this could signal the end of the line for Iginla. Hopefully the Flames are thinking ahead and want to make sure that if Iginla wants to continue his playing career that it is in Calgary.

There are not too much things that the Flames are known for more than Iginla. Iginla has over 500 goals for his career and has averaged just under a point per game in his National Hockey League career. There is just too much on the line for Calgary, who has been a playoff contender a lot in Iginla’s career but hasn’t made the playoffs the last three seasons. That must be something that is getting under Iginla’s skin as he would love to win a Stanley Cup before his career ends. It was nine years ago when Calgary was one win away from the title and it should be a priority now to get Iginla back there.

The Flames have struggled out of the gate this season with a 1-2-1 record. The time has come to give Iginla a new contract for another year or two to keep him in town. Canada loves their hockey and loves their home country players even more. There will be a ton of Canadians who would be very happy to see Iginla get a championship and especially if it can be done in Calgary. The clock is ticking for Iginla and the Flames, it’s time to get something done.
