The Washington Capitals (0-3-1) seek their first regulation win of the season today, taking on the Buffalo Sabres (2-2) at Verizon Center in Washington D.C. The game will be televised on Comcast Sports Network and will be aired via radio on 106.7 The Fan and the Caps Radio Network.

Tonight marks the first of three contests between the two Eastern Conference teams, as the Sabres got the best of the Capitals last regular season, defeating Washington three times in four contests. Buffalo visits Verizon Center, the Capitals home rink, twice in this shortened 48 game regular season.

Washington finally earned a point this regular season Friday night, falling 3-2 to the New Jersey Devils in overtime. Following a 2-0 deficit through two periods, forward Mike Riberio and defenseman Mike Green tallied third period goals to force the extra period. Michal Neuvirth played phenomenal in goal for the Capitals in his second straight start, recording 32 saves on 35 shots. New Jersey forward Ilya Kovalchuk registered the game winning goal 4:39 into overtime.

Washington is on early season life support and could be five games into the season without a win if they lose tonight. The Capitals haven’t gotten four games into the season without a win since the 1993-1994 campaign. Washington opened that season with an 0-6 record that year.

Michal Neuvirth will start in goal for the Capitals, his third straight start. Washington will scratch Tom Poti, Marcus Johansson and Roman Hamrlik.
