Over the first two games, it seemed like there was a reason to be concerned over the Winnipeg Jets. Since then, they’ve managed to pull off three-straight wins–leaving everyone wondering if they should be considered one of the top contenders in the Eastern Conference.
The Jets are coming off a big 5-4 win over the New York Islanders and they’ll be challenged for their next games on Tuesday against a Montreal Canadiens squad that’s off to an impressive start as well at 3-1. It’s still early enough in the season where there’s no reason to be making a big deal over a record, but Tuesday’s game will be a nice test for the Jets as far as where they stand with some of the other contenders in the Eastern Conference.
Winnipeg still has plenty to prove over the remainder of the season and it should be interesting to see if they can extend their winning streak to four games against the Canadiens on Tuesday. The Jets failed to make the playoffs last season after finishing the year with a 37-35-10 record and they’ll obviously be doing whatever it takes to make sure that doesn’t happen again in 2013.
If they can manage to stay hot like they have been, there’s no reason why Winnipeg can’t continue this success over the remainder of the regular season and it should be interesting to see how Tuesday plays out considering these two teams end up meeting in the playoffs down the road.
Of course, as mentioned before–there’s still plenty of time before any of us can start making that assumption.
