The San Jose Sharks could not have asked for a better start this season as they’re one of two teams that are still undefeated heading into Monday night (Chicago Blackhawks) and one of the main reasons why they’ve seen so much success has been due to the impressive play of Patrick Marleau.
The center has been nothing short of amazing for the Sharks this season as he’s already recorded nine goals over the team’s first five games–which is impressive for just about any hockey player. What’s even more impressive for San Jose is Marleau has four assists to go along with the nine goals and if he can keep this pace up–there’s no question the Sharks have the potential to be one of the top teams in the Western Conference once again.
Despite the fact that he’s a 33-year-old player, Marleau’s numbers production shouldn’t come as a surprise considering what he’s accomplished over the last couple of seasons. Not only is Marleau coming off an impressive 2011-12 season in which he recorded 30 goals and 34 assists, but he’s recorded at least 64 points in six of the last seven seasons.
Playing in the Western Conference is never easy to begin with, but San Jose looks like they’re ready enough to make a strong run at this year’s Stanley Cup. If that does happen, all signs point to Marleau playing a key role in the Sharks getting there–so let’s hope he keeps up this pace over the course of the rest of the regular season.
