Nail Yakupov is Looking Like the Real Deal for the Edmonton Oilers
So far in five games for the Edmonton Oilers, their third consecutive number-one overall pick Nail Yakupov has paid off, as the rookie has had three goals so far, including an empty netter tonight versus the Colorado Avalanche. Tonight he also only played 13:22 in tonight’s Oilers 4-1 victory over the Avalanche. If Yakupov keeps this great up, he will be a huge star much sooner than later.
With the next three upcoming games being on the road, including a rematch versus the Avalanche which could yield huge dividends, the Oilers have a change to return this storied team to glory from the doldrums of the league that they’ve been in far too long. They play the San Jose Sharks and the Phoenix Coyotes and if they beat them, it will for sure boost their confidence in this shortened NHL season.
Yakupov isn’t the only young phenom they have on their team. With the number-one overall pick in the last two years, the Oilers also took center Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and left winger, Taylor Hall. With these two big-name young talents, this could make Yakupov, who had been drawing comparisons to hockey great Sidney Crosby, even greater as teams will have to keep their eyes peeled for more than one young up-and-coming star.
Also, since they play all three offensive positions, maybe the team’s number one line could actually be called the number one line due to where the three guys got drafted.
