I had mentioned in earlier articles here on RantSports.com that Nashville Predators goalie Pekka Rinne needed to get back to form if the Predators are to get to winning ways this season. When facing the defending champions in the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday night, Rinne delivered in a big way. Through regulation Rinne held strong through the Kings doubling the number of shots of his team. The lone shot he allowed through was off of a freakish glass rebound where the puck bounced directly back out in front to be knocked in by the Kings.
The few games where he lacked his usual save percentage were a forgotten memory as he stood strong through overtime and through the shutout as well. Once it got to the shutout it was anyone’s game, but at that point win or lose, Rinne had shown what he is truly made of in goal. This should be more like what the Predators can expect in from their net-minder. If Rinne retains this form throughout the key injury to Patric Hornqvist, the Preds could be looking much better over the coming month.
The team itself seemed to be lifted by Rinne’s strong stance in front of the net. Even the shootout showed how great Rinne can be. His stellar showing throughout the game gave the Predators a chance to survive to overtime. This could be a huge lift for his team.
Pekka Rinne’s name was on my list of three stars half way through the third period. Great work from the Predators net-minder!
