NHL Pre-Game Notes: Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Washington Capitals
This afternoon’s pre-Super Bowl matinee between the Pittsburgh Penguins (5-3-0) and the Washington Capitals (2-5-1) will be nationally televised on NBC. Face off is set for 12:30 pm (est). The Penguins will be looking to capitalize on Washington’s awful start to the season and ride the wave of their current winning streak to take the momentum into today’s game for another win against the hated rival. With the Capitals current standing among the league, there’s no question as to the fact that Sidney Crosby is currently the better player / best player in the world when compared to Alex Ovechkin who recently got engaged to Russian tennis player, Maria Kirilenko.
The line combinations will likely remain the same from yesterday afternoon’s game:
FORWARDS: Chris Kunitz-Crosby-Pascal Dupuis, Zach Boychuk-Evgeni Malkin-James Neal, Matt Cooke-Brandon Sutter-Tanner Glass, Craig Adams-Joe Vitale-Tyler Kennedy;
DEFENSEMEN: Brooks Orpik-Paul Martin, Simon Despres-Kris Letang, Deryk Engelland-Robert Bortuzzo, and the projected starting goalie in net for the Penguins this afternoon is Tomas Vokoun.
WASHINGTON INJURY / LINE INFO
The Capitals will be without defenseman John Erskine who will be starting a three-game suspension today for elbowing Philadelphia Flyers Wayne Simmonds.
Braden Holtby is the projected starting net minder for the Capitals this afternoon.
