NHL Pre-Game Notes: Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Washington Capitals

Geoff Burke – USA TODAY Sports

Tonight’s game between the Pittsburgh Penguins (7-3-0) and the Washington Capitals (2-7-1) will be televised locally on ROOT Sports – Pittsburgh. Face off is set for 7:00 pm (est). The Capitals have as many losses as the Penguins have in the win column.  Here’s hoping it will remain that way after tonight’s game with another win for the Pens and another loss for the Caps.

Late yesterday evening, the Penguins announced they traded defenseman Ben Lovejoy to the Anaheim Ducks for a fifth-round draft pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. The departure of Lovejoy leaves a hole in the Penguins NHL roster so they recalled Dylan Reese from their AHL affiliate in WBS.

The line combinations at this morning’s skate were as follows:

FORWARDS: Chris Kunitz-Sidney Crosby-Pascal Dupuis, Zach Boychuk-Evgeni Malkin-James Neal, Matt Cooke-Brandon Sutter-Tyler Kennedy, Tanner Glass-Joe Vitale-Craig Adams;

DEFENSEMEN: Brooks Orpik-Paul Martin; Simon Despres-Kris Letang; Reese / Robert Bortuzzo-Deryk Engelland; and the projected starting goalie in net for the Penguins tonight is Tomas Vokoun.

WASHINGTON INJURY / LINE INFO
The Capitals will be without three players this evening.  Defensemen Jack Hillen is out with a shoulder injury and Dmitry Orlov with an upper body injury while forward Brooks Laich is out with a groin injury.

Michal Neuvirth is the starting net minder for the Capitals tonight.
