Carolina Hurricanes Win in Overtime Against Ottawa Senators

The Carolina Hurricanes improved their standing in the Eastern Conference to 5-4-0 tonight against the Ottawa Senators with their second win in three consecutive road games.  The game-winning goal (GWG) came from the unlikely source of defenseman, Jay Harrison, a little more than two minutes into overtime.

Despite the fact that goals win games regardless of which player scores them, if Carolina is to make any kind of serious effort for a legitimate run in the playoffs, they will need more production from their top lines other than superstar Eric Staal.  However, the one steadfast piece of the team seems to be goaltender Cam Ward who has stopped a combined 97 out of a total of 101 shots over the last three games.

The Hurricanes will have plenty more chances to add more wins on the road with upcoming games against three tough opponents in the Philadelphia Flyers (Feb. 9), New York Islanders (Feb. 11) and New Jersey Devils (Feb. 12).  They need to keep the momentum on their side.  Earning wins on the road could be a big boost for them to return to the PNC Arena and perform well in front of home crowd.

Carolina will first face the Flyers this coming Saturday afternoon at 1:00 pm (est) at the Wells Fargo Center.  The game will be broadcast on Fox Sports – Carolinas.
