Pittsburgh Penguins Skate Over Washington Capitals for Fifth Straight Win

Charles LeClaire – USA TODAY Sports

The Pittsburgh Penguins had another impressive performance in their win against the Washington Capitals last night.  They plowed their way through both Capitals goaltenders, Michal Neuvirth and Braden Holtby,on their way to crushing the Capitals by a score of 5-2.

Despite Washington captain, Alex Ovechkin, becoming a little aggressive on the ice and showing somewhat of a spark with a goal in the third period last night, the Capitals still have yet to resolve their issue of becoming more cohesive and the Penguins pretty much took advantage of that throughout the entire matchup. In contrast, Pittsburgh captain, Sidney Crosby, was once again a major factor in his team’s victory recording a total of three points (1 goal, 2 assists).

Yet a variety of Penguins players contributed to last night’s pummeling of the Capitals including blueliner Simon Despres who has been on a defensive whirlwind since his poor showing for the first few games of the start of the season last month.  We should probably just chalk that up to some nerves that have since translated into remarkably assertive play on the ice.

Also doing his part was recalled defenseman Dylan Reese who made his Penguins NHL debut in place of injured Kris Letang and was paired with Robert Bortuzzo.

The Penguins will go for a sixth straight win tomorrow afternoon on the road against the New Jersey Devils at 1:00 pm (est).  The game will be televised on ROOT Sports – Pittsburgh and nationally on NHLN-US.
