Sword Play: Buffalo Sabres - Ottawa Senators Preview

By Matt Clouden

The Buffalo Sabres hope that some time high above the rink can right the ship for Tyler Myers. He’ll get his chance to show it has tonight against the Ottawa Senators.

After sitting out the Sabres last two contests, Myers will be back in the lineup tonight according to Lindy Ruff. Ruff has not yet made a decision as to who will sit in Myers’ stead, but if he follows his current trend of benching to send a message, Jordan Leopold may be his next recipient.

Leopold has been just as bad as Myers has been all year and has looked confused at times in a system he’s known for over two years. He’s been extremely hesitant in the defensive zone and seems to go temporarily color blind in the neutral zone given the number of turnovers he has there.

If Leopold does not sit, the next choice for Ruff would likely be Alexander Sulzer who has not played nearly as well as he did after the trade deadline last year.

Quick Hits for the Sens game:

Mikhail Grigorenko will also be back in the lineup after sitting out against the Boston Bruins on Sunday. Ruff said he worked on his power skating as well as in the film room.

Ville Leino skated for 20 minutes the other day and Ruff said his hip has responded to new treatment. It’s still up in the air whether or not he will be able to play at all this season.

Ryan Miller will get the start tonight. He’s looked great the last two games and Jhonas Enroth has not given Ruff much confidence in his two appearances.

The Sabres are 0-1-0 against the Sens this year.
