Columbus Blue Jackets Sit At Crossroads

The Columbus Blue Jackets are at a crossroads with their organization after making a change with their general manager this week. Jarmo Kekalainen comes into a situation with a team that is 4-7-2 on the year that isn’t scoring much and is giving up too many goals. Kekalainen has an uphill climb ahead of him to get this team back to respectability because right now, this isn’t a good team.

Columbus traded their star away this offseason in Rick Nash and without him, the team is only scoring a little over two goals a game while giving up over three a game. That’s not a winning combination obviously. The team went out and got a new goalie as well which hasn’t worked out as well they would have hoped. It has been a complete disaster for the Blue Jackets. The team is in last place right now in the Central Division and with the four teams ahead of them all likely to end up in the playoffs, getting wins inside the division becomes difficult.

Kekalainen is known for his drafting ability and he is going to have to do that in Columbus to rebuild this team. It might be two or three years still before this team can be a steady playoff contender but if Kekalainen can draft the way he has in the past with other teams, the Blue Jackets could have a bright future. Right now however, it is going to be a very rough rest of this year in Columbus for the team and their fans.
