The Phoenix Coyotes are getting the chance to experience a rare break in their schedule this week , with four days off after a 4-0 win on Monday. That break may allow some of the players for Phoenix to finally get a day off and heal up, or just get their heads straight again going into the last two-thirds of the season.
Phoenix has been a team that depends on their goaltending more than anything. Mike Smith had a rough start to the 2013 NHL season, but has made a turnaround in recent weeks. With Smith finally playing the way that he was expected to play, this team has a chance to get back to the playoffs this season. There is no doubt in my mind that the long layoff this week will help the team in more ways than one. It could just be the days off, or it could be a rare way for the team to get some practice time in during a long season.
The Coyotes must come out of this break hot though, and can’t afford to have any letdowns the rest of the way, because breaks like this aren’t going to happen again. This could be the biggest week of the regular season for Phoenix even, if they don’t play a single game again until Saturday. Things haven’t gone the way of Phoenix for the first third of the year, so this could be the biggest break that the Coyotes get the rest of the way.
