Tampa Bay Lightning Reach Measuring Stick Game

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The Tampa Bay Lightning have become a team that is feast or famine on a nightly basis. Tampa Bay is just 8-6-1 while scoring the most goals in the league and being third in scoring on the power play. Thursday night will bring a game that should be a measuring stick to see what will happen with the Lightning the rest of the season as the Boston Bruins come to town. Tampa won six of their first seven games before losing six straight and have now won two straight. With a very solid Boston team in town, the Lightning need to prove they can be consistent.

I really believe this game comes down to two players in Tampa Bay. This must be a game where Steven Stamkos and Martin St. Louis take control early and score three goals between them. It is a game where leaders are needed and that is the job of Stamkos and St. Louis. There can be no letdown on Thursday night if Tampa Bay wants to prove they are a top team in the Eastern Conference.

If Tampa Bay can win this game over a Boston team that has lost just twice in regulation this season, it may allow the team to fully turn the corner this season. There is no reason for a losing streak that long when you have that much talent on the ice. The defense must improve obviously but averaging four goals a game is shockingly good. This must be the night for Stamkos and St. Louis to score a Lightning victory.
