Getting Aaron Volpatti Great Move For Washington Capitals
The Washington Capitals are a team full of skill players and with that, the team needed someone to protect those players. Washington claimed Aaron Volpatti off waivers on Wednesday and with that brings a tough guy to the Washington roster to keep an eye on Alex Ovechkin, among others. This is the kind of player that will allow Washington to play a much more wide-open style because opponents will need to fear Volpatti coming off the bench for redemption if someone gets hit hard.
Volpatti has only one goal for the season, but has 28 penalty minutes in 16 games. Volpatti has one main goal in Washington and that is keeping opponents away from the Capitals’ goal scorers. If Volpatti can do that, the Capitals should be able to keep their hot string of games going. Washington has won two of their last three games to improve to 7-11-1 for the season, and while the team is still far away from a playoff berth, this move may be the key to turning things around.
There will be people who believe that an enforcer doesn’t really change anything and is only out there to fight people. While that is partially true, Volpatti should be able to make life difficult on Washington’s opponents and just put the thought in their head about what he could do. It is a very solid move for the Capitals and one that Ovechkin should be welcoming with open arms. Washington’s season isn’t over yet and just may be turning around with this waiver claim on Volpatti.
