The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Dallas Stars by a score of 6-3 at the Mellon Arena in front of a home crowd of 17, 132 fans; Sidney Crosby was named #1 star of the game while Chris Kunitz and Alex Ponikarovsky were #2 and #3, respectively.

Jordan Staal recorded his seventh short-handed goal against the Ottawa Senators and set a new NHL rookie record; the Penguins defeated the Senators in a shootout by a score of 5-4 and Staal was named #1 star of the game.

Rick Tocchet earned his first hat trick against the San Jose SharksJarmo Myllys.

Andre St. Laurent recorded his first hat trick against the Quebec NordiquesDan Bouchard.

Denis Herron earned his third shutout by stopping all 32 shots from the Colorado Rockies.

Michel Plasse earned his first shutout stopping all 18 shots he faced from the Minnesota North Stars.
