NHL Pre-Game Notes: Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Philadelphia Flyers
Tonight’s game between the Pittsburgh Penguins (15-8-0, 30 points) and the Philadelphia Flyers (11-12-1, 23 points) will be televised locally on ROOT Sports – Pittsburgh and nationally on NBC Sports Network. Face off is set for 7:00 pm (est) at the Wells Fargo Center.
There’s nothing like the heated rivalry between the Penguins and Flyers as a fan, so tonight is a game that is always met with much anticipation and high expectations. This will be the third of four matchups between the two teams this abbreviated season and it’s split as they’ve each won one game in the series. This should prove to be interesting tonight, as usual.
Paul Martin is expected to be in tonight’s lineup against the Flyers although nothing has yet to be confirmed and he remains a game-time decision; Martin skated with Orpik, so I would guess that is a good sign.
The projected line combinations based on this morning’s skate are as follows:
FORWARDS: Kunitz-Crosby-Pascal Dupuis, Beau Bennett-Malkin-Neal, Matt Cooke-Brandon Sutter-Tyler Kennedy, Tanner Glass-Joe Vitale-Craig Adams
DEFENSEMEN: Brooks Orpik-Martin, Matt Niskanen-Letang, Mark Eaton-Deryk Engelland, Robert Bortuzzo-Simon Despres. The starting goalie in net for the Penguins tonight is Marc-Andre Fleury.
PHILADELPHIA INJURY / LINE INFO
The Flyers will be without a number of players due to injury tonight: forwards Tye McGinn (broken orbital bone), Matt Read (upper body injury) and Jody Shelley (hip injury); and defenseman Andrej Meszaros (upper body injury). Flyers defenseman Nicklas Grossman (lower body) is questionable for tonight after leaving in the first period of last Tuesday’s game. Ilya Bryzgalov is the projected starting net minder for Philadelphia tonight.
