NHL Preview: Washington Capitals Vs. Carolina Hurricanes
It has been one of the craziest years in the history of the Washington Capitals organization. It seems like nobody can really know what Adam Oates’ team will do next. Most recently, the Capitals lost to the Carolina Hurricanes in an ugly loss where no player seemed determined. They played a mediocre game against the best team in the Southeast Division and that will not fly when they face off against their division rivals again on Thursday night. This rivalry game is slated for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast locally in surrounding areas.
Something that will be crucial in this game will be the play of the star Alex Ovechkin. It may be cliche to say, but if Washington wants to turn things around and make a big splash in the second half of this season, he is going to have to lead the team as the captain he is. He has 60 points in just 49 games against Carolina and he needs to continue to keep that streak alive to keep the Capitals’ chances alive and well.
As for goaltending, Braden Holtby is expected to start again. If this is the case, some serious statistics will come into play before puck drop. In Holtby’s career against the Hurricanes, he has been dynamite. He is 2-1 with a sub 2.00 GAA. That is one of his best and proves that he is very comfortable playing in North Carolina.
Ovechkin and Holtby should be the stars of this one and if they play well, the Capitals’ chances of winning will be very good.
