Logan Couture Helps San Jose Sharks Get Back On Track
The San Jose Sharks got a much-needed win on Thursday, beating the Los Angeles Kings by a 4-3 score. Logan Couture had two goals and an assist, including the game-winner. The Sharks had lost four straight games, but should be able to get back on track if Couture and their other stars continue to produce. Couture now has four goals in four games and his 12 goals and 21 points are good for third on the team in scoring.
The Sharks’ young center continues to get better and is now back on track after a short slump. Couture started the season with five goals and 10 points in seven games, but he (and the entire Sharks team) went through a rough January that saw him record just four points in 12 games. He now has seven points in seven games in March and is back to looking like the 30-goal scorer he has been the past two seasons.
Not only is Couture contributing offensively, but he is doing so at big times. In the five March games that have seen the Sharks get at least a point, he has seven points (four goals, three assists). His performance on Thursday helped him pass Joe Pavelski on the team’s leaderboard. He now trails only Joe Thornton and has one less goal than Patrick Marleau but the same points total. Couture has also proven to be a consistent contributor on the power play, and has three goals and eight points with the man-advantage. The Sharks were wise to lock him up through the 2013-14 season at a bargain price, but will soon need to start think about hanging on to him longer than that.
