There are just some nights where things don’t go your way. The Dallas Stars experienced a night that they would love to forget on Saturday night during an 8-1 pounding from the Chicago Blackhawks. Dallas goaltenders gave up three goals in each of the first two periods to put any hopes of a win out of reach very early on. There is no excuse for a team to give up eight goals in a single game.
It was very obvious that Chicago was much better and much faster than Dallas. The Stars proved quickly that they are not in the same league with the Blackhawks and that should be a wake up call for this team. I would hope that the Stars are spending quite a bit of time watching this game over and over again. I know that can be counterproductive especially with how bad things got for the Stars, but it is a necessary evil. Dallas has to learn from this game and since the team has no real hopes of making the playoffs this season, the Stars should use the last 21 games to work towards next season.
I really like what Kari Lethonen is doing in net, but his outburst after getting pulled from the game was unacceptable. I know he was upset about what was happening, but you can’t be breaking your stick and stomping off to the locker room. Lethonen is the future in goal for the Stars even though he is almost 30 years old. I don’t see any other goalies making a major run at this point. I hope that Dallas took this beating to heart and they improve from it.
