Homestand Should Allow Edmonton Oilers Three Chances To Win

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

The Edmonton Oilers sit in third place right now in the Northwest Division going into Sunday’s action and while the team is hanging around the edge of playoff contention, there is a stretch of games beginning that could be a turning point. Edmonton is now in the midst of a four-game homestand and even though the Oilers lost their first game during their time at home in overtime, Edmonton can change their fortunes over the next three games. There are three winnable games coming up at home and the Oilers may need to win all three of them.

Edmonton will host the Nashville Predators Sunday night before the San Jose Sharks come in on Wednesday. The St. Louis Blues will visit Edmonton on Saturday night to finish the stretch. It is a complete week at home for the team that includes two off days between games each time. There should be no excuses for being tired when the games are spread out like this. Edmonton has had a bad month with just two wins in eight games but can use the next several games at home to fix their issues.

I’m not sure what the Oilers are going to do at the trade deadline or if they will decide to move some players like Sam Gagner, but if the team is kept together, Edmonton could find a way to sneak into the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. This is not a bad Oilers team at all with all their young talent. It would be important for the team to take advantage of this homestand to get back over the .500 mark and back into playoff contention.
