Pittsburgh Penguins Record Ninth Consecutive Win Over Boston Bruins

Charles LeClaire – USA TODAY Sports

This  afternoon the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Boston Bruins for the second time in less than a week by a score of 2-1.  It was also the ninth consecutive win for the Penguins.

The Penguins top line is still being highly productive for the team with a goal coming from Sidney Crosby a little more than halfway through the first and the entire team continues to be extremely consistent, which is allowing them to play a disciplined game for an entire 60 minutes.  Tomas Vokoun was in net this afternoon for the Penguins giving a very sound performance stopping 31 of the 32 shots he faced from the Bruins.

The victory did come at a price as defenseman Kris Letang was lost to injury late in the first period and did not return for the remainder of the game.  In his post-game interview, head coach Dan Bylsma reported that Letang suffered an upper-body injury and is to be further evaluated.  Nothing further is known until then including when he will return to the lineup.

The Penguins will face the struggling Washington Capitals this coming Tuesday looking to make it ten wins in a row.  It will be the third and final game in the series.   Pittsburgh has won the last two matchups against the Capitals and will look to make it a third to sweep the series.  The puck is set to drop at 7:30 pm (est) at the CONSOL Energy Center.
