The Washington Capitals have been struggling all across the board in this lockout-shortened season, and their causes were not helped in Tuesday night’s game against their rival Pittsburgh Penguins. They got off to a great start, with a goal from star winger Alex Ovechkin, but they failed to sustain any force after the lone goal. They were completely shut out and eventually fell to their biggest rival.
On Thursday night, they will face off against the Winnipeg Jets, another Southeast rival. They are looking to get momentum after their most recent loss. This game will take place at 8:00 p.m. and will be broadcasted locally in surrounding areas.
For Washington, they will have to focus on getting their power play working. It’s no secret that it has been cold as of late, and we all know that no hockey team will be successful if they don’t play well when they are a man up. Washington has been really bad when it comes to being on the PP, and it will help to have Mike Green back. Green will be playing his first game in March on Thursday night. This will be crucial not only to this Power Play, but the defense and getting back into their good groove.
Braden Holtby has been very good in net for the Caps all season long, and he is great against Winnipeg. Expect him to be between the pipes when puck drop comes.
The Capitals defense and the previously mentioned Mike Green will have to stop Winnipeg’s Bryan Little. His precise passes have been perfect, and the defense must keep him in check every time he steps on the ice.
