The St. Louis Blues should have a goal in mind with the final 19 games of the regular season upcoming — they should be playing for the No. 4 seed in the Western Conference and making sure they have home ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs. The Blues are sitting in sixth place right now, but are just two points out of that fourth position.
St. Louis has had to deal with one of the best teams in the NHL in their own division in the Chicago Blackhawks, so winning the Central isn’t going to happen for the Blues. That means the team needs to be thinking about the No. 4 seed to be at home.
That is the most important spot when the playoffs begin in early May. I think the team that gets that No. 4 seed has a real chance to be a team that ends up in the conference finals due to the way the NHL reseeds teams after each round. There are going to be upsets in the playoffs this season and that No. 4 team is probably going to get another lower-seeded team in the second round.
St. Louis goes back into action on Saturday night after a three-day break, which should have allowed the team some much-needed rest before the final stretch. The Blues has to be trying very hard to get that fourth seed over these last six weeks of the season.
