The Calgary Flames are all but done this season. They’ve had an absolutely miserable season that will likely result in the face of their franchise being traded or leaving this summer as a free agent, as well as multiple veterans that could find their way to other clubs before the trade deadline.
But right now, there is still hockey to be played for this team. And of the players currently on this team, Curtis Glencross is playing better hockey than anyone.
Glencross is really having a terrific year for the Flames, particularly of late. He’s currently sitting in fourth on the team in points, while leading them in goals. He’s experiencing the highest scoring rate of his career.
So far on the season, Glencross has 21 points, including 13 goals. He’s scored in his last five games and has eight points over that span. That little streak includes a hat trick and a game-winning goal, as well as the fact that he notched his 200th career point earlier this season.
As bad as the Calgary Flames have been this season, Glencross has been a steady presence, just as he has been for the past couple of years with this team. He’s a regular 20-goal scorer and knows how to put the puck in the back of the net. He still has a couple of years left on his contract, at barely over $2 million. Which makes him a bargain.
Glencross is going to be a very valuable guy to this franchise for the next couple of years. He’ll be one of their only noteworthy players and will be relied upon to produce even more offense. Which could work into his favor when it comes time to negotiate a new contract.
