The Ottawa Senators will be welcoming the Tampa Bay Lightning today. This Eastern Conference match up could bump Ottawa to 40 points, or Tampa could get a much-needed win.

In the previous battle between these two teams, Jason Spezza, Milan Michalek and Erik Karlsson were all in the lineup, and the Senators now look like their affiliated club more than an NHL club. Tampa ended up winning that game with a final score of 6-4. Ben Bishop received the loss, while Vincent Lecavalier was honored for playing his 1000th game. Sami Salo was a remarkable +5 in the contest.

January 25 seems like forever since they last played, and this matinee game will be different from the last one. Ottawa’s lineup is totally flipped from when they last played, so that is a change in itself.

On Tampa’s side, Steven Stamkos is currently leading the league once in goals again, and Martin St.Louis is one point behind Stamkos’ 40 with 39. Cory Conacher is having an impressive rookie year so far and after playing in the AHL for a part of his career, he seems to have found a home in Tampa. The Burlington, On. native tore up the AHL last season, and is having a very good debut NHL season.

Ottawa currently sits in the fifth spot of the Eastern Conference, and Tampa is low in the 13th spot. Due to the Eastern Conference being so tight, every game is now important, and if either team gets on a mini winning streak, they could do some serious damage.
