The Kings though have rebounded from their slow start and are now sitting in fifth place in the Western Conference standings. It is going to be nearly impossible for Los Angeles to get any higher than the No. 4 seed because of how well the Anaheim Ducks are playing in their own division, but the Kings are becoming that same dangerous team that they were at the end of last season.
The Kings saw their three-game winning streak snapped on Thursday night, but the team is 14-6 since a 3-5-2 start to the year. There are a lot of teams that have been bunched in the standings this year but it is looking like Los Angeles is pulling away from a lot of those teams.
I know the Kings are really striving to get home ice in the first round of the playoffs and if they were to do that, there is a possible second round matchup with the Chicago Blackhawks. That would be an epic series with those two teams if it were to occur.
Los Angeles has to work on getting that seed though and to do that, they will need to get through a five-game road trip that starts on Monday in Chicago. It could be a playoff preview and a game that may show how far the Kings have come since the Blackhawks won on Opening Day. There are a lot of things to like about this Los Angeles team and they must be watched closely over the last month of the regular season.
