NHL Preview: New York Islanders Vs. Washington Capitals

Debby Wong-USA TODAY Sports

The Washington Capitals will return home after a tough road stretch to face off against the New York Islanders. Washington has won three straight and will look to get back in the playoff race with a win against New York. Both teams are in the hunt for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, and a win in this game will be crucial. This game, at the Verizon Center, will be broadcasted locally in surrounding areas.

It should be interesting to see what Capitals coach Adam Oates does when it comes to line pairings. Since the Capitals are coming off of a tough road schedule, they may look a bit different come Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, the Islanders are coming off of a 3-0 victory against the Florida Panthers, and must go into the Verizon Center prepared to knock off a streaking Capitals team. The team is 8-4-1 on the road, where they have thrived.

A player to watch for New York is certainly Brad Boyes, who has played a major role for the Islanders this year as he has served the puck to goal-scorers better than anyone. Since they will be facing the Washington Capitals’ rough defense, expect Boyes to be passing to the Islanders’ playmakers like John Tavares.

The Capitals have been hot, outscoring their last three opponents 13-3. For this offense, expect John Carlson to have a good game on Tuesday. Carlson has been a huge part of the top-ranked power play, and his career against New York has been great! He had a nice assist in their first meeting and like Brad Boyes, he could be a difference maker.
