The Calgary Flames are a team that is floundering around near the bottom of the Western Conference standings, and other teams are looking to trade for their talent because of it. There would be interest obviously in Miikka Kiprusoff, but recent reports state that Kiprusoff has told the team that he won’t report to another team if he were traded. That has to be a major blow to the team if it is true.
Kiprusoff obviously doesn’t want to move anywhere outside of Calgary at this point of his career. He has been in Calgary since the 2003-04 season and has been the man between the pipes through that time.
At some point, however, I would think that Kiprusoff would want a chance at a title. The Flames haven’t been past the first round of the playoffs in nearly ten years now and at age 36, time is slipping away from Kiprusoff. It’s time for him to want the move instead of wanting to just stay around for another losing season.
It is the goaltender’s decision obviously and while a lot of people are going to disagree with it, it sounds like he has no interest in leaving Calgary. The team is going to try to find a way to trade Jarome Iginla in the next week or so, and that means the team is being torn apart. It doesn’t sound like a fun way to go to me, but if Kiprusoff wants to finish his career on a rebuilding team, more power to him.
