NHL Pre-Game Notes: Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Winnipeg Jets
Tonight’s game between the Pittsburgh Penguins (26-8-0, 52 points) and the Winnipeg Jets (18-14-2, 38 points) will be televised locally on ROOT Sports – Pittsburgh. Face off is set for 7:00pm (est) at the CONSOL Energy Center.
The big news today is the acquisition of Jarome Iginla from the Calgary Flames; however, the Penguins still have a game to play tonight and Evgeni Malkin and Marc-Andre Fleury (as a back-up) will be a game-time decision against the Jets. Fleury was on the ice skating today, which seems to be a good sign. Newly acquired defensemen, Douglas Murray, will make his debut in a Penguins uniform tonight.
The projected line combinations based on this morning’s skate are as follows:
FORWARDS: Chris Kunitz-Sidney Crosby-Pascal Dupuis, Brenden Morrow-Malkin-James Neal, Matt Cooke-Brandon Sutter-Tyler Kennedy, Tanner Glass-Joe Vitale-Craig Adams (Beau Bennett, Dustin Jeffrey);
DEFENSEMEN: Brooks Orpik-Paul Martin, Murray-Matt Niskanen, Simon Despres-Mark Eaton-Deryk Engelland (all rotated). The starting goalie in net for the Penguins tonight is Tomas Vokoun.
WINNIPEG INJURY / LINE INFO
The Jets will be without a number of players tonight against the Penguins. Forwards Anthony Peluso (upper body injury), Jim Slater (upper body injury) and James Wright (upper body injury); and defensemen Ron Hainsey (upper body injury), Zach Redmond (lower body injury) and Mark Stuart (upper body injury). Ondrej Pavelec is the projected starting net minder for Winnipeg tonight.
