For the longest time, the St. Louis Blues looked like a team that would cruise into the playoffs with a high seed, but they’ve run into a brick wall lately and has fallen all the way to the eighth seed in the Western Conference going into play this weekend.
The Blues have lost three straight games but now have three days off before getting back into play on Monday night, and they need to use the break to figure out what is going wrong.
The Blues have scored just four goals over their last three games, but have out-shot two of their opponents by over 20 shots on goal. Those games still ended up being losses though for the team.
The Western Conference is proving to be very tight and a playoff race that could last all the way down to the final weekend of the season, and St. Louis can’t afford to run into another slump during the final month. St. Louis is only ahead by two points for the final playoff seed and with five teams within three points of the Blues, another losing streak could spell the end of the road.
There are a lot of teams that don’t want to get that No. 8 seed because they would be forced to see the Chicago Blackhawks in the first round. That is not a scenario any team wants to face, especially the Blues.
