There are certain points in the regular season where a game comes up that is nearly a must-win situation. The New York Rangers will face that situation on Saturday night when they hit the road to face the Montreal Canadiens. The Rangers are tied for the eighth and final playoff spot right now heading into Saturday’s play and with a bunch of teams hanging just outside of the playoff chase, this game becomes quite important.
The Rangers have just 15 games left in the regular season and 35 points for the season. I’m starting to believe that 50-55 points will be the magic number to reach the playoffs. The Rangers need 15-20 points then in their last 15 games to reach that number. Montreal is a talented team and the game is on the road but the Rangers have to find a way to get a victory here. They have had trouble all season scoring goals, being last in the NHL in that category.
Rick Nash has had to do everything it seems like this season for the team, leading the Rangers in goals and assists. Nash can only do so much while Henrik Lundqvist can only be so good for so long. I’m not sure if the team is going to make a trade or two before the deadline but they must do something if they want to make the playoffs. This game would be a great start though towards getting out of that tie for the last playoff spot. It is a game that the Rangers desperately need to win.
