We’re only five games into his career with the Los Angeles Kings, but it’s pretty clear that Tyler Toffoli is going to be an exciting part of this franchise moving forward.
Toffoli had been a notable name in the Kings organization for a couple of years before they had eventually made the move to call him up earlier this month. Regardless of what level he’s playing at, whether it was OHL or AHL, he’s been an absolute goal-scoring machine.
That ability to find the back of the net was evident in his time with the Manchester Monarchs this season. He was one of the top scorers in the AHL in his time with the Kings’ affiliate, scoring 28 goals and adding 20 assists in 55 games. Which was why it made so much sense to call him up.
His playing time has yet to become consistent, but whenever Toffoli has been in the lineup with the Kings, he’s been effective. Playing in the top six, Toffoli has found opportunities to get the puck on the net and create scoring chances. He had four points in five games with the Kings so far, including a pair of goals.
It’s probably not a coincidence that the Kings have won every single game in which Toffoli has been in the lineup. That’s not to say he’s the sole reason that they’ve won those games, but having another offensive threat for a team like the Kings, who can struggle at times offensively, is something that they shouldn’t be taking for granted.
Toffoli needs to be in the lineup every night. That’s the bottom line. As the Kings’ season wears on, if this is a trend that continues to be evident, the fact that they’re scoring goals with Toffoli in the lineup, it’s unlikely he’ll be a healthy scratch with the sort of regularity that we’re currently seeing.
