Buffalo Sabres: Jordan Leopold Trade Could Set Off Flurry Of Deals
The Buffalo Sabres made their first deal of the trading season when they sent Jordan Leopold to the St. Louis Blues on Saturday. It’s the first deal in what could be a multitude of deals for the Sabres this year.
Though they’re not too far out of a playoff spot, it’s pretty clear that the Sabres are going to be sellers this year. They’re going to be fielding plenty of calls before Wednesday. And this Leopold trade is just the beginning.
It would appear that there are very few players on this Sabres squad that are safe from potential trades. Though they’re not about to embark on an all-out fire sale, they’re going to be very active.
There are a few key players for this Sabres club that could find their way out very soon. Ryan Miller is obviously going to be the biggest name floating around prior to Wednesday. Whether or not the Sabres are going to deal their longtime netminder depends on whether or not they receive an overwhelming package in exchange for him.
Aside from Miller, the Sabres could look to move the likes of Drew Stafford or Steve Ott. Robyn Regehr is likely a very sure bet to be traded for a team looking to add some physicality on the blue line. Those are the names that the Sabres are going to be fielding calls for in the next few days.
Point is, this Leopold trade was just the first in what could be a series of moves for the Sabres. They’re looking to not necessarily rebuild, but to reshape their roster headed into the future. They’re going to be a team to watch as the trade deadline creeps ever nearer.
