Saturday’s Loss Will Hurt New York Rangers In Big Way

Eric Bolte-USA TODAY Sports

Saturday night was a very important game for the New York Rangers and their chances to make the playoffs this season. The Rangers laid an egg during a 3-0 loss on the road, and things got worse after the game when former Rangers player Sean Avery blasted current coach John Tortorella on Twitter, calling him a “clown” who should be fired. Avery may not be on the team anymore but distractions like this don’t help matters.

The Rangers have been shut out in two straight games now and are averaging barely more than two goals a game. There has to be a trade out there somewhere for a major market team like New York that has the chance to make a run in the playoffs. The team just needs offense on the ice which hasn’t happened all season. There are many people who don’t like Tortorella or his attitude. I have blamed Tortorella in the past but this comes down to the players now.

It doesn’t matter how bad the coach gets on the players, there must be some level of personal responsibility and finding a way to score some goals. The Rangers have gotten great play in net from Henrik Lundqvist which is being wasted right now. There is still time until the trade deadline for the Rangers to do something positive. It won’t be getting rid of Tortorella, because that won’t happen this late in the season. I really hope the players score producing on the ice and that management maybe brings in another offensive force to help out.
