It is down to the final month of the NHL regular season. There are races that will be decided in the final days and weeks, with one of those races being for second place in the Eastern Conference.
The Montreal Canadiens are holding on to that spot right now, and I think that Montreal needs to hold on to that spot if they want to make a deep playoff run this season. The team is just good enough at home to win, but is even better on the road. That is a very dangerous combination.
Montreal needs to win the game against Boston on Saturday night with that game being at home, but the Pittsburgh game is important on the road because it could give Montreal the confidence that they can beat the Penguins., after losing 1-0 to Pittsburgh last week on the road behind a strong performance in net by Carey Price.
I’m a fan of what the Canadiens have done this season. Montreal could be the team that knocks off Pittsburgh in the playoffs, especially with Sidney Crosby being hurt now for the Penguins. Montreal needs that No. 2 seed to avoid Pittsburgh until the conference finals, and I think they will find a way to get it done in the end. It doesn’t hurt when you have only lost three times on the road all season long.
