Not much is going right for the Phoenix Coyotes these days. They’re not healthy, they can’t close games, and their offense has been having difficulty showing up on a consistent basis. After a deep playoff run last year, a spot in the postseason is no guarantee.
Luckily, a key piece of their lineup is starting to round into form, which is especially key for the success of their offense: Radim Vrbata. With Vrbata looking healthy again, the Coyotes are hoping he could set the tone for the rest of the team.
Vrbata missed a long stretch, which spanned from February 16th to March 19th, with a fractured bone in his foot. Prior to the injury, he wasn’t performing at the offensive level that the Coyotes had come to expect from him. In six games since his return, he’s rounding into form.
In six games since his return from the injury, Vrbata has six points. That includes three goals in his last two tilts. Though he’s put up decent point totals on the season, with 18 in 21 games, the Coyotes were certainly hoping for more in the goal-scoring department, after he potted 35 this season.
It’s very likely that his past few games have been a turning point for Vrbata. The Coyotes are no stranger to late-season runs towards the playoffs. This time, it’s going to be a bit more difficult. And they’ll need Vrbata to lead them offensively. If what we’ve seen in the past few games is any indication, he may be up to the task.
