Ottawa Senators Won’t Be Trading Ben Bishop Despite Rumors

Marc DesRosiers-USA TODAY Sports

There are points where rumors come out and they are so off the wall that you can’t take them seriously. I think a report that the Ottawa Senators would consider trading Ben Bishop for the right offer sounds like one of those crazy ideas. Bishop has helped Ottawa stay afloat while Craig Anderson has been injured, so why would the team trade him now?

Bishop is 8-5 on the season with a 2.45 goals against average. He has led Ottawa to the top spot in the NHL in goals against and even after Anderson returns, you need another goalie just in case. That goalie should be Bishop if Anderson gets injured again. You can’t just expect Anderson to pop right back into action and perform the way he was before his injury. The trade deadline is just a day away and there are people saying all sorts of wild and crazy things. This Bishop rumor isn’t going to happen, I feel very confident about that.

The Senators are a team that could use more offense to improve before the playoffs arrive. It seems like every team needs offense, though. Very few teams are truly out of the playoff race, but moves are being made in that direction. Ottawa needs to jump in on one of those deals instead of trading Bishop away. It would obviously help if Jason Spezza was able to return before the playoffs, but that doesn’t seem very likely at this point. The Senators are a team that is adding to their roster and not subtracting players like Bishop.
