The 2013 NHL season doesn’t appear to be going the way of the Phoenix Coyotes as the team is under the .500 mark and has several teams to jump over to make the playoffs. It could be time for the team to consider making a trade that improves the future. Phoenix really needs to consider trading Shane Doan before the deadline this week.
Doan is leading the team in points with 21 including 11 goals and at age 36 may want to go after a Stanley Cup. Doan has assists in each of his last three games, but it looks like Phoenix isn’t going anywhere this season even as he plays great hockey. It could be a chance for the team to see if their captain wants to make a run somewhere else in the postseason. It would be a highly unpopular move in the desert and one that could be unexpected with the team just a few points out of the final playoff spot. Doan does deserve better, however, and should be allowed to get a realistic chance at the title.
Doan has been with Phoenix for all 17 years of his career. I’m sure it would be a shock to his system if he decides to move on, but isn’t the goal of every professional athlete to win a title? That should be the goal for Doan as his career reaches its final years. I could see a number of teams making a run at Doan over the next week to see if he would be interested in moving his services out of Phoenix. This is a move that the Coyotes should think about.
