Toronto Maple Leafs Getting Hot At the Right Time
The 2013 NHL season is down to its final games now and the Toronto Maple Leafs appear to be starting to get hot again as April begins. The Maple Leafs have won four of their last five games including three in a row as they enjoy a four-day break in between games. That might not be the best thing for them, especially being on a roll, but this Toronto team is looking a ton better than it did just two weeks ago.
There has been talk that Roberto Luongo could be traded to Toronto or even Miikka Kiprusoff, and I have taken a lot of heat about the idea of Toronto trading for Luongo. I would prefer a more veteran goalie in net personally, but James Reimer just pitched a shutout on Saturday night against a very good Ottawa Senators team so maybe the goaltending situation isn’t bad as I thought it was. There will be rumors between now and the NHL trade deadline about the goalie situation, but I feel more confident about Reimer’s ability now.
There is real potential for this Toronto team to win four more games in a row with their upcoming schedule before they have to face the Montreal Canadiens on Apr. 13 at home. That game has a chance to be for a high seed in the playoffs if Toronto can run off four straight wins to increase their streak to seven. I know I would prefer that the Maple Leafs had a lower seed for the playoffs, but if they can play this well now, why can’t they keep doing it right through the playoffs? It will be a very important last month in Toronto.
