The Washington Capitals got their job done on Tuesday night in a very big way. They mowed down the Carolina Hurricanes on the road and gained a couple points to inch their way closer to the top of the Southeast division. Led by Niklas Backstrom’s four assists, the Capitals are now just two points away from the lead and are very close to a playoff spot. Can they keep their great winning ways up on Thursday against the New York Islanders?
The Capitals will take on the Islanders in a game where every shift, every minute and every pass will count. Both of these teams are in need of every win in their respective playoff pushes and they will each look for any chance they can get.
The Washington defense will have to stop this Islander team who has won five of their last six games. They are currently in the 8th playoff spot, something that these Capitals want desperately. You have to expect that both of these teams will be playing very aggressive all game long.
If that is the case, look for one game changing play — a fight. John Erskine is always known to get into it, but this game is very special. Erskine just came back from an injury, that just so happened to happen against the Islanders. Erskine will want to come back and make a big splash. A fight could be coming in the near future.
The Capitals could be in for a game full of activity. Buckle up and enjoy; it’s going to be a good one!
