Los Angeles Kings Rumors: Team Almost Traded For Jay Bouwmeester
The trade deadline has come and gone. The Los Angeles Kings made a few moves, most notably acquiring defenseman Robyn Regehr from the Buffalo Sabres for a pair of second round picks. However, they had interest in another defenseman at the deadline, and almost landed him.
We all know by now that Jay Bouwmeester was traded to the St. Louis Blues for prospects and a first round pick. A steep price to pay for a guy who may not even play on the team next season. While the Blues were willing to part with their first rounder, the Kings found the price to be a little steep.
According to a report from The Fourth Period, the Kings were very close to making another trade. The report also says that the Kings were willing to part with prospect Tyler Toffoli, but not for a guy they considered to be a rental player. While the trade never came to fruition, it is certainly interesting to see that Los Angeles was dangling Tyler Toffoli as potential trade bait.
Acquiring Jay Bouwmeester would have been a very solid move for the Kings, and would have given them one of the most formidable defenses in the entire league. But fret not, Kings fans. Los Angeles still has one heck of a defense, and if they can sign Regehr to an extension – which I expect they will – they will continue to have a very solid defense for the next few seasons.
Speaking of an extension for Regehr, that will be the subject of my next article. Look out for it today or tomorrow!
