The San Jose Sharks were able to keep a win streak that now stretches seven games alive on Friday night, thanks to a big goal from Joe Pavelski. The Sharks defeated the Calgary Flames 2-1, getting an important win for their playoff pursuits while seeing Pavelski continue to be one of the team’s hottest players. In the last seven games, Pavelski has five goals and is looking to be back in the same form he was in at the start of the season. In the first seven games of the season, Pavelski scored four goals and added eight points as the Sharks got off to a 7-0-0 start.

The Sharks have used their current streak to move up to fourth place in the Western Conference standings, but at the same time they are only four points ahead of the St. Louis Blues, who are in eighth place. Pavleski’s goal came with less than three minutes remaining on Friday night, and broke a 1-1 tie. For the seventh straight game, Antti Niemi turned in an amazing performance in net, stopping 23 of the 24 shots he faced. He may be getting overworked, but Niemi now has 19 wins for the season and an impressive 2.09 goals-against average.

The Sharks now have four players with at least 20 points. Pavelski has 12 goals and 24 points this season, while Patrick Marleau (16 goals, 26 points), Logan Couture (15 goals, 27 points) and Joe Thornton (seven goals, 35 points) have also helped shoulder the offensive load. The Sharks have a great chance to keep their hot streak going on Sunday when they face the slumping Dallas Stars.
