In the beginning of the season, you had a very good right to say that Alex Ovechkin was struggling. He had the worst start of his career, and eventually was getting to the point where people were questioning whether he still had it or not. After all, he has been dominating for years, and he had to slow down some time. Many thought that this was the year.
Ovechkin didn’t listen, however, as he just kept playing and helped the Washington Capitals stay in the playoff race. The Great Eight has been hotter than anyone else in the league, and it has been proven in the stats. He is now tied for the league lead in goals scored with Steven Stamkos, and is leading Washington to an unbelievable finish to their year.
Ovechkin has always been known to be a clutch player, and his recent streak has been as clutch as you are going to get. Whether if it has been late goals, timely assists or just leadership, Ovechkin has been crucial to the Capitals winning five of their last six games. Everyone has been saying that this team needs a true leader, and captain Ovechkin has been doing just that.
He will have to keep it up with the rest of his team, but he has a very good shot at winning the goal-scoring title at the end of the regular season. No one else has been better than him in the latter half of the season, and the teams coming up seem to suit Alex Ovechkin just fine. Look for him to have a huge couple of games in the upcoming stretch.
