Blake Wheeler Needs To Step Up For Winnipeg Jets

It has been an epic collapse from the Winnipeg Jets in the last couple weeks as the team has fallen from the division lead all the way out of the playoffs. Winnipeg still has a chance to sneak into the playoffs either by going on a hot streak to win the Southeast Division or just getting to the eighth seed. If the Jets want that to happen though, they are going to need Blake Wheeler to step up.

Wheeler is tied for the team lead with 14 goals on the season, but he hasn’t scored a goal in his last ten games. The Jets need Wheeler to get back to putting the puck in the net if they want to get to the playoffs. Wheeler had a very hot first half of February and was looking like a player that would score over 20 goals this year. The problem is that Wheeler has assists in just two of the last ten games as well as the Jets have fallen off the cliff.

The time has come for the first-round pick from five years ago to pick up his game to support players like Andrew Ladd and Evander Kane around him. Winnipeg is in the midst of a long homestand during the final weeks of the regular season, so this would be a great time for Wheeler to do his thing. This season is going to go down as a disappointment if the Jets don’t end up making the playoffs after their strong start. Winnipeg can only hope Wheeler goes back to his February performance and does it quickly.
